Recently a survey was taken of 16-29 year olds asking them regarding their experiences and their perceptions of Christianity.
The top three responses were:
- Christianity is judgmental - 87%
- Christianity is hypocritical - 85%
- Christianity is old-fashioned - 78%
Furthermore...
- Only 13% had anything good to say about Christians
- Only 3% said something good about “evangelical Christians”
(an evangelical is simply a Christian who believes the Bible has Good News of God's love for all people)
The conclusion of the survey - Christianity has lost its connection with Jesus Christ. Jesus opposed the judgmental, the hypocritical and the old-fashioned of his day.
Jesus never ceases to amaze me. Two thousand years ago, He said, “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Jesus made it this simple when He said, “Love the Lord your God...” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Wouldn’t it be cool if this same survey was taken in Brighton and the responses came back:
- Christians are incredibly loving - 87%
- Christians really love that Jesus guy - 88%
This is our journey; this is our destination at Bridge Church.
We want to be known for only two things:
- We love people more
- We love Jesus most
